A New Method for Detecting Sleep Apnea

A new method for detecting obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using ECG signals has been developed. This approach could improve diagnostic accuracy compared to traditional methods, offering potential for use in home monitoring devices.

A New Method for Detecting Sleep Apnea

What is obstructive sleep apnea?

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep-related breathing disorder that can have serious health consequences, including cardiovascular risks. It is essential to detect this disorder quickly and accurately.

A new detection method

The SApneaNet method uses electrocardiogram (ECG) signals to detect apnea events. It transforms ECG signals into images that allow for analysis of both time and frequency, improving detection.

Promising results

Experimental results show that this method achieves a sensitivity of 94.7% and a specificity of 95.2%, indicating very high detection performance compared to existing methods.

Impact for patients

This new method could provide an effective alternative to traditional diagnostic techniques, thereby facilitating the detection of sleep apnea, even at home. This could improve access to care for individuals suffering from this disorder.
