A new drug may help with sleep apnea

What is retatrutide?

Retatrutide is an investigational drug that acts on several receptors related to blood sugar regulation. It may be useful for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a disorder where breathing temporarily stops during sleep.

Study results

Two studies were conducted with adults having moderate to severe OSA. Participants received either retatrutide or a placebo for 80 weeks. Results show that those who took retatrutide had significant reductions in apnea episodes compared to those who received the placebo.

Side effects and considerations

The most common side effects observed were gastrointestinal in nature. Although retatrutide shows promising results, it is important to note that this drug is still in the study phase and is not yet available for patients.
