Sleep and Weight Loss: A Study on Overweight Adults

Sleep Problems in Overweight Adults

The study found that daytime sleepiness, insomnia, and poor sleep quality are common among overweight or obese adults. Among the participants, 20.2% reported excessive sleepiness, 23.4% exhibited moderate to severe insomnia symptoms, and 63.3% reported poor sleep quality.

Possible Improvements After Weight Loss

Researchers observed changes in sleep-related questionnaire scores among participants who followed the weight loss program. For example, the proportion of those with a high score of 5 to 6 increased from 31% to 45.5% after weight loss, indicating an improvement in sleep quality.

Study Limitations

Although improvements were noted, it is important to emphasize that the interpretation of the results is limited by the absence of a control group and that participant follow-up was not systematic.
